RE: More bad press. How stupid can people be?

You know this makes me think about your thread on Dumbing down of atv riders, basically ATVs are TOO easy to ride, thus people ride 2 up with children and talk on cell phones. Speaking of which what are we nearing with society if everyone seems to jump and answer the cell phone either a call or texting imediatley without thinking "hmmm, is this the safest time to answer this call?"

RE: More bad press. How stupid can people be?

Like I have always said ATV's give a false sense of security and/or safety. Unfortunate for the ignorant riders that cause harm to themselves and in this case small children.

RE: KTM vs. _________

Skill>speed I think is what the ATV industry does not understand and that is why the development of world class, race ready machines don't truly exist yet. Hell most 450 ATV's lack even the basic safety components to pass tech inspection at most any local or nationally sanctioned race. (ie. nerf bars, tether kill switch, or proper bumper)

I don't think its that great of a show. I have a hard time identifying with anything on it but I try to catch it when I can.

RE: KTM vs. _________

.... i have never had a want or need for more power out of it, and the SX has a stock pipe.
i can see how building a bike is fun, and you do make little comfort mods to them. but the whole point is that you can take it to the race track without doing anything to it, ill do stuff to it to make it my own, not really out of necessity, but you pick up sponsors etc and run their product and do R&D for it
You hit the nail on the head, the good local "pros" "A class" what ever you want to call it usually run basically stock bikes in MX around here (CO,NE) at the local races because they are good enough riders to make the stock package beat the "modded to hell" rider with lesser skill. The biggest thing most amatuer riders that are semi serious about the local race series do is set up the suspension for their style. Now I am not talking about the up and coming Ryan Villipotos, J-Law's, just the regular riders that can ride damn fast without 1000s of dollars of mods. This is what the Katoom was built for.

I would be interested in how they perform. But good job none the less! This is what I am talking about home brew modifications, I love it. I wish more people thought this way.

ATV world features Mile high rafting and atv

ATV world
I have rafted with this outfit back in the 90's but they recently added ATV's. I have met groups (riding the same trails) with this outfit, the guides seem good/courtious but the people that sign up to do this are a bit scary in the sense they are not real experienced. Lots of goons out there. I just thought I would post it up sinces their base is near where I live.

RE: Recalls on 2008 KTM 450XC and 525XC

LOL, You know how many recall bullitns go out for every model of ATV or motorcycle, even cars. Most are ignored by consumers because they rarely are enough to cause any major problems and when they do that is when they take them in. But yes, I am waiting for the fireworks

RE: Pilot Jet Change

Yes both jets require removing of the bowl. As far as Jets go, go to any dealer and they should have a pretty complete variety of jets (styles, thead pitches and sizes) to choose from. Bring your old one in and know what type of carb you have before you go just to make sure you get the correct type. Otherwise try Sudco or Motorcyclecarbs.com
It will however be cheaper and easier to just got to ANY dealer requardless of brand (ie. you can get them at the Honda dealer if thats what is close)
Honestly do you have your air or fuel screw, adjusted properly? If not do that first before you go jetting. I have some threads rolling around here with an easy proceedure for doing this if you are unfamiliar.

RE: 2009 Trips

I don't have just one trip planned for 09. I have several events outside of my regular weekly rides. Although I do have one big event that me and my team are hosting and organising for a grand opening of some new terrain and ATV/motorcycle park in south central Nebraska. I also will be doing some of the annual races I always do.

RE: Pilot Jet Change

Its pretty easy, but requires the removal of the carburator. The pilot jet can be down in a little hole, or screwed in just beside or in front of the main jet. Using a narrow cabinet type screwdriver gentley unscrew it being sure not to damage the pot metal and brass threads. Remove it and reinstall the different sized pilot jet being sure not to cross thread it going in.

As far as the shimming of the main jet usally means you need to do some fine tuning of either the needle clip(you can shim that as well for even finer adjustment),float heigh adjustment or main jet itself. They are however a quick fix as in they are just a very thin washer that goes on the jet before you screw it in.

RE: A cheaper alternative to a helmet cam....

One thing that I really want to know about them is how long the battery last.
I would expect aproximately 30 minutes in continuous recording mode. Thats about what I get with my camera which is a similar style only older.

RE: A cheaper alternative to a helmet cam....

The only downfall is the internal USB charge only battery, but I see it has a 12v to USB adapter for charging in the optional accessories, otherwise it specs pretty much like the others. I like the remote activation option, but not sure how that would work (have to see that in person). Only thing I hope it has better way of telling if its on or off. That is the main gripe I have with my cheapy Oregon Scientific AC2000 camera is I never really know if the power is on or its recording. Although this has a higher frame rate so its definitely better quality picture than what I have, but mine is 3 years old.
Thanks for posting I am going to have to check it out and possibly get one.

RE: Robbie Madison's 100ft step up and 100ft step down

Yeah, but considering the type of bikes he had to man-handle. 650/750 BSA and Triumph twins (street scramblers) and then later Harley Davidson XR750's and doing big (for the time) gaps and landing surprisingly most of them. He has my respect.
Now RK, does his "boner airs" over piddly little gaps thinking he needs a CR500 to do what most of the "Crusty Demons" do on 250s plus they do tricks over similar type gaps.
